Event Planners Tool Box
by Ed Camp
Every profession has a set of tools that help the job go smoother. Why should event planning be any different? Well, it's not.
When you are putting together an event planning tool box, consider the following:
- The container. I like using the very large cat litter containers, mostly because I hate to throw anything away, and they are a great size and very durable. (I'm talking about the ones with the big handles attached.) Remove the label or cover it up with something that promotes your business, and then get ready to fill it.
- Double-sided tape. I've often believed that this marvelous invention has saved my life! I prefer the granddaddy of them all which is made by 3M. Get the large roll that looks a little like an alien ship, and you can find it at any office supply store.
- Xacto knife. These are the pencil-shaped holders built for very sharp triangular blades. They come in different sizes, and I often choose the heaviest I can find. The arts and crafts supply stores have a wide selection.
- Tape measure. You'll always need to measure something! Get the heavy duty construction type.
- Scissors. The sharper the better when getting scissors. Get two types. One from the dollar store for basic cutting, and a more durable pair from the office supply store.
- Floral wire. This comes in several different gauges. Choose one that is pretty thin and another that is medium strength. I usually get it at my favorite floral supply store.
- Fishing line. Get a spool that will support the greatest amount of weight. It's all "invisible" no matter the size.
- Velcro. I wish I had invented this! It has so many uses during event implementation. I suggest getting the industrial strength version that you can find at any home improvement store.
This will get you started, and are the staples that will make pulling off an event much easier. As you get used to this system, you'll find ways to create different tool boxes for different events. It's great to have them all ready to grab and go.
